Our Intuition Lives In Our Bodies
There’s a special treat for me in getting to support other queer folks in their healing and transformation.
To all you queer fam out there, I want you to know that your healing and thriving matter, and that it’s possible - your being well, moving towards your thriving, are possible.
And I don’t want to undermine all the ways that it’s hard - that’s real too, and, still, movement is possible. I’m here to fight for that for all of us - myself included.
When we’re wanting things to change
Recently I got to work with a queer person who showed up to coaching really looking for advice and solutions around some particularly challenging relationship dynamics and conflict.
And of course! Don’t we all want help to fix conflict and make hard dynamics go away!?
Of course we do.
And, what happened instead was really beautiful to witness.
(And I guess it wasn’t entirely “instead,” but getting to some of these shifts was not the linear path this client had imagined. Spoiler alert - they did get to experience shifts: more ease, transformation of the hardness, just not in the ways they’d initially imagined!)
Looking inward/through the body
Instead of them coming with “problems” and me having “answers” this client got to practice tuning into their own knowing.
They got to notice how much they have been cut off from their body (especially and in particular ways as a queer person), and practice micro steps to come back to their body and its inherent wisdom.
I got to support them in deepening in their body-awareness in right-sized, bite-sized ways, finding ways to slow down and tune into their intuition.
We were growing their self-trust, and through this their self-empathy and self-compassion. This sturdy foundation was resourcing and grounding, and super supportive of their resilience.
Intuition as self-trust
The result? Ultimately, they had so much more capacity to show up with care for themselves and the other that the hard dynamics did start to shift! They were able to slow down to tend to themselves long enough that new moves were possible, new space was opened.
And bonus!! This growing ability to more fully inhabit their own body and trust themselves - turns out it’s a pretty transferable skill, one they see rippling out to make all sorts of relationships and parts of their life feel more generative and rich.
This client hadn’t realized this was even what they were longing for from coaching, but getting there was super satisfying for them. What a pleasant surprise - they didn’t need to turn to an external authority because so much wisdom was already within.
Trusting our own wisdom doesn’t mean we have to do it alone
And that still didn’t mean they did it alone. Calling in support was a brave and powerful move.
They were able to leave with simple practices to keep growing their embodiment, keep dipping their toes into feelings that had previously been too much. They were even able to make space for grief and mourning and loss, and the aliveness these expressions can open!
As a coach, I got to walk alongside them, holding the container. I got to beam empathy at them and hold the clarity that their healing and transformation were possible. I got to bear witness to them, and this resonant accompaniment is a key ingredient our systems need to settle and heal. This client got to receive some of that resonance.
Collective liberation is possible and that includes you!
And what’s beautiful every time I get to hold space in this way is it taps me into the collective healing that’s here for all of us. I’m able to lean into more space for my own healing, and trust that we are all threads weaving in this tapestry towards collective liberation, that every baby step matters. What a joy and a gift.
Your healing and transformation are possible. Deeper embodiment is possible. Moves towards your aliveness and thriving are possible. And you making space to get support in all of this is a gift to us all.
